The Battle of Austerlitz, 2 December 1805, a celebrated work by the French painter François Gérard, who was an important portraitist and neoclassical artist. The subject is the memorable victory of Napoleon Bonaparte against the Russian and Austrian troops during the war of the third coalition. At the center of the scene, General Jean Rapp is shown presenting the captured Russian prince Repnin to Napoleon on horseback. The original painting is housed in the prestigious Château de Versailles in France.
